We live in a world where it is easy to just ‘survive.’ Unlike some places in the world, we are blessed to have our basic needs met. At some point we realize that our lives are worth so much more than simply surviving day to day, making money, and so on.
We often fall into destructive patterns when we are on this search for ‘something more.’ In my own life, I used substances, behaviours, and negative relationships as a means of coping with the absence of the deeper meaning in my life.
Thriving in recovery for me is living life to the fullest, one day at a time. It is listening to my heart, and letting myself trust in my own happiness. It’s having the courage to meet life head-on and trust that all is well, even when it doesn’t feel that way.
Surviving our difficult life experiences is challenging. Thriving in our recovery may be still more challenging, but also infinitely rewarding. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your journey.
